Award-winning architect Pascale Sablan, FAIA, NOMAC, LEED AP, and CEO of Adjaye Associates New York Studio, will release her first book, GREATNESS: Diverse Designers of Architecture, early next year. Published by Oro Editions, and available now for preorder through major booksellers, GREATNESS features essays, project case studies, and profiles of 47 contemporary architects and designers whose contributions are positively impacting the built environment.

“Women and designers of color play a crucial role in realizing many of the world’s greatest architectural projects, yet our recognition is still significantly lacking,” says Sablan. “GREATNESS is a focused effort to rectify this and amplify the ideas and achievements of diverse designers. The book is a call to action for the industry to embrace a more equitable and inclusive definition of greatness, presenting an anthology that spans cultures, backgrounds, and typologies.”

As a physical manifestation of Sablan’s digital Beyond the Built Environment library, GREATNESS highlights 40 groundbreaking U.S. and international projects, demonstrating how diverse perspectives foster dignity, well-being, and belonging. Through innovative approaches to residential, cultural, institutional, and master plan design, the featured works address some of the industry’s most pressing issues, including housing injustice, redlining, and environmental sustainability.

The book serves as both an inspiration and an invitation for progress, underscoring the urgent need for social justice through inclusion. By confronting structural inequities and advocating for systemic change, GREATNESS emphasizes the essential role of diverse voices in design and their recognition as “great."
